Far-right candidate leads in opinion poll ahead of Romania presidential election

In every scenario and against every other competitor, he comes out on top.

Călin Georgescu, the far-right candidate who emerged as the favourite at the first round of the annulled presidential election in December, is leading in an opinion poll based on him running in the vote rescheduled for May.

Unsere Freunde von der Radio Free Europa Propaganda dazu:

Romania’s Constitutional Court has banned a pro-Russian, anti-EU, far-right candidate from running in the presidential election next month, ruling 5-2 that Diana Iovanovici Sosoaca’s public statements and conduct “systematically” violate the country’s constitutional foundation -- its membership in Euro-Atlantic structures.

Ups, sorry - das war ja garnicht die Begründung für den heutigen Ausschluss. Das war die für einen anderen im Oktober… (“Iovanovici Sosoaca, who shot to notoriety with her virulent anti-vaccine stance during the COVID-19 pandemic and won a seat in the European Parliament earlier this year, has been a vocal proponent of closer relations with Moscow, …”)

Die Begründung für den Ausschluss heute - ehm… folgt später:

The CEB said on March 9 it would give details later on why it took the decision.

Die kann man dann sicher mit Informationsfreiheits-Klagen frei bekommen, oder so…

Georgescu, who is critical of NATO and opposes Romanian support for Ukraine against Russia’s invasion, filed his candidacy for the rerun, to be held on May 4, on March 7.

The CEB had 48 hours to accept or reject the application. Georgescu can appeal the CEB move, which sparked clashes in front of the Board’s headquarters in central Bucharest.
