US aut­ho­ri­ties have step­ped up their efforts to pro­se­cu­te Juli­an Assan­ge by offe­ring Brad­ley Man­ning, the Ame­ri­can sol­dier alle­ged­ly respon­si­ble for lea­king hund­reds of thousands of government docu­ments, the pos­si­bi­li­ty of a plea bar­gain if he names the Wiki-Leaks foun­der as a fel­low conspirator.

This is hard­ly a sur­pri­se, but after locking up Brad­ley Man­ning in soli­ta­ry con­fi­ne­ment for seven mon­ths - a con­di­ti­on that much of the world has deemed to be tor­tu­re - and loo­king for ways to use a com­pu­ter hacking law to char­ge Juli­an Assan­ge, rumors are that offi­cials have offe­red Brad­ley Man­ning a plea deal, in which he would claim that Assan­ge “con­spi­red” with him to get and leak the docu­ments. From all the info that’s come out alrea­dy, there’s been litt­le to sug­gest that the­re was any actu­al con­spi­ring, but it appears that our Jus­ti­ce Depart­ment has deci­ded (incor­rect­ly) that Juli­an Assan­ge is the more important tar­get than Brad­ley Man­ning, and so it wants to bring Assan­ge down.

SMS, IM, Face­book Chat und Email? Seit heu­te (noch pri­va­te beta, invi­te erfor­der­lich) sind die­se Vek­to­ren für facebook.com offen. Jeder User bekommt (auf Wunsch) eine eige­ne @facebook.com email Adres­se, Haupt-Interaktionsportal bleibt ent­we­der die facebook.com Web­site, oder wird eine neue Smartphone-App.

Emails tau­chen (wenn der User den Absen­der als wich­tig ein­ge­stuft hat, manu­ell oder per frien­den) im Chat Inter­face auf, genau­so wie IMs und SMS Nach­rich­ten. SMS kön­nen genau­so wie emails direkt aus dem Face­book Chat Inter­face ver­sen­det werden.

Gespei­chert wer­den alle Inter­ak­tio­nen unab­hän­gig des Ein­gangs­vek­tors als Konversations-History. Schön ange­ord­net, eine pro Person.

Ein­zel­ne Nach­rich­ten kön­nen aus der Kon­ver­sa­ti­ons­histo­ry mit einer Per­son gelöscht wer­den, sodass sie in der eige­nen Inbox nicht mehr auf­schei­nen. Über das was mit den Daten auf Sei­ten von facebook.com und auf Sei­ten des Emp­fän­gers pas­siert gibt es der­zeit kei­ne Infor­ma­ti­on. Die Data­mi­ning Impli­ka­tio­nen ste­hen aber rela­tiv sicher.

Auf dem email Ein­gangs Vek­tor ste­hen dem User drei Filter-Level zur Auswahl:

Mes­sa­ge, Other und Junk.

Other ist Level 2, Nach­rich­ten aus die­sem Level wer­den in einer sepa­ra­ten Inbox gesam­melt und tau­chen nicht in Echt­zeit im Face­book Chat auf . Der User kann aber jeder­zeit Absen­der von Other (Level 2) auf Mes­sa­ge (Level 1) hoch­stu­fen, sodass dies geschieht.

Im Schluss­fa­zit kann man fest­hal­ten, dass dies vie­le neue Zugangs­vek­to­ren für Face­book sind, und dass auf­grund von email For­war­ding nicht mehr ein­fach sicher­zu­stel­len sein wird, wel­che email letzt­lich bei facebook.com lan­det. An die­ser Stel­le fehlt es dem Sys­tem an Transparenz.

Hook ist der SP “Alle jemals getä­tig­ten Kon­ver­sa­tio­nen mit einer Per­son kom­for­ta­bel und durch­such­bar an einem Platz”.

Ein­schät­zung aus Sys­tem­per­spek­ti­ve: Sehr, sehr gro­ßer Impact - sekun­dä­re Impli­ka­tio­nen noch nicht ein­mal im Ansatz absehbar.

Im übri­gen war das (Pres­se­kon­fe­renz fand vor etwa einer Stun­de statt) wohl der Grund dafür, dass goog­le vor fünf Tagen den Con­ta­ct Export von gmail nach facebook.com abge­dreht hat.
